Description:

This Super Overlay contains the 1:2,500,000 scale Geologic Map for the United States produced by the USGS (King, Beikman and Edmonston) dated 1974. It does not include AK or HI. This is based on a 77 meg JPG produced by the USGS. The Google Earth version retains the quality and resolution of the original.

Aeronautical Charts of the US

Google Earth KML File:

Google Earth BBS Discussion:

Description:

This collection of SuperOverlays contains all of the Aeronautical Sectional and Terminal Area Charts for the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. These are based on high resolution digital versions of these maps produced by the National Aeronautical Charting Office. The maps in this collection are not current and must not be used for real-world navigation. They are for educational and simulation use only. I have just finished re-compiling these maps and they should now be the same quality as the original images.

Also included are 3D Airspace Polygons created by Lloyd Bailey. Again, these are not current.

Simply open the KML file linked above with Google Earth. Find the map you are interested in by checking the Index, then enable the map by clicking the box next to it under the Places menu in Google Earth Special Instructions:

MODIS Satellite Gallery

Google Earth KML File:

Google Earth BBS Discussion:

Description:

This collection of Google Earth SuperOverlays are based on the MODIS Rapid Response System Gallery. The gallery contains satellite imagery obtained from NASA’s Aqua and Terra satellites. The images are posted in near real-time, updated almost daily, and often show major events occurring in the world that day that are visible from space. Dust storms, hurricanes, tropical storms and wildfires are just some of the events captured by the satellites.

The Google Earth SuperOverlays that I have created are the same quality and resolution as the original imagery posted by NASA. The images are sorted based on the day of the year in which they were captured and you can click on the name of the image under the Places folder in Google Earth to see some general information regarding the image, including a brief description of what is being shown. I realize that it would be nice to organize these some other way (tags, etc.), but I don’t really know how that would be possible (without a lot of work). So for now, you’ll just have to explore the imagery based on the dates.

I have downloaded all of the gallery imagery dating back to 2003, and over 1,000 images are included with the Google Earth collection. There are several 100 images that did not get converted over for various reasons, but I will try and add those as I have time and will continue to upload new imagery as NASA makes it available.

Special Instructions:

Simply open the KML file linked above with Google Earth and choose the image you want to view by selecting under the Places folder

Google Earth KML File:

Google Earth BBS Link:

Description:

This collection contains a wide variety of data for the California wildfires of October/November 2007. I created Google Earth versions of many of the data sets and others are simply linked from data sets prepared by others. The following data sets are included in this collections.

  • Daily MODIS Satellite imagery courtesy of MODIS Rapid Response Project at NASA/GSFC

  • Time animation based on GOES West Satellite imagery collected every 30 minutes during the first several days of the fires.

  • Data showing extent of fires from various sources

  • Placemarks linking to the locations of destroyed/damaged homes

  • Placemarks linking to georeferenced photographs from several Flickr groups.

  • Placemarks linking to georeferenced videos from SignOnSanDiego

  • Wind pattern animation created by JPL

I will try and continue to add data sets to this collection as it becomes available.
