One of the cool features of WordPress 3.0 is the ability to have random images in the header. Every time the page reloads, a new header is used. I just happened to already have 178 amazing panoramic images that were cropped and resized to 1,280×175 for an iGoogle Theme I created several years ago (If you use iGoogle as your home page make sure to check out the theme).
It was easy enough to put these on my blog, so I figured I’d also go ahead and make the header images available to anyone else that wants to use them in their own Word Press install. These panoramas all originated from Flickr users and they all have Share Alike and Attribution use requirements. So no commercial use, and you must post the list below that lists out each of the original photographers to meet the Attribution requirements.
There are two zip files available.
1280×175-High.zip – This one has a maximum image size of 100k
1280×175-Low.zip – These have been compressed more to have a maximum image size of 40k. They are the same images, just more compression.
There are probably several different ways to implement these in your blog. The theme I’m using does it automatically and I believe the default Word Press 3.0 them will do it automatically. There is also a plugin called WP Random Header that should do the trick.
