Description:
This Super Overlay contains the 1:2,500,000 scale Geologic Map for the United States produced by the USGS (King, Beikman and Edmonston) dated 1974. It does not include AK or HI. This is based on a 77 meg JPG produced by the USGS. The Google Earth version retains the quality and resolution of the original.

Beautiful! In the version I downloaded, I can see blurry stripes, maybe where stitching has been made. I can’t see this on the example image above. Any idea what might be happening?

Not sure, may be video card issue (drivers, not enough memory?). Try swtiching to OpenGL or DirectX mode.
